Originating in Nagasaki, Shippoku-ryori is a type of Japanese cooking style heavily influenced by Chinese cuisine. Amongst the various dishes that make up Shippoku cuisine, is Nagasaki Kakuni Manju - melt-in-the-mouth pork belly, wrapped in a soft bun. The bun was inspired by Chinese Dongpo pork, re-designed to be easier to eat, and some would say tastier too.
Made without the use of any preservatives, the meat is carefully cooked for a long period of time, in order to fully bring out the savory taste from the meat, and served in a fluffy bun casing.
