General comments from Ryusei Umezaki

The theme of this year's Fukuoka Airport Senryu Contest is "Overseas Travel."
There were 1,317 applications from all over the country, including Fukuoka Prefecture.

For the past three years, we have been forced into "confinement" due to the new coronavirus.
Many senryu poems were submitted that expressed the desire of a balloon, held to the ground by a straight string, to reach the sky.

"We'll use passports in close quarters after COVID-19" and "We're ready, now all that's left is for COVID-19 to end" are all stuck in the same boat.
It describes the feelings of travelers waiting for the whistle signal to "go forward."
People have a strong desire for the unknown. This is probably due to the innate human desire to "strive for greater heights."
One of the most effective ways to solve this problem is to go overseas.

"Watching you grow up overseas" The young sweetfish grows stronger as it travels upstream through brackish waters.

"I want to feel the diverse winds of a foreign land." Rather than reading about it in a book, I see with my own eyes the "colors of the sea and the colors of the wind."

"Miso soup that reminds me of Japan overseas" And it is also the opportunity to reexamine traditional Japanese culture overseas under the skies of a foreign country.
My tongue, accustomed to my mother's miso soup, longs for Japan. That taste is a culture in itself. It is not uncommon for people to travel abroad to rediscover Japan.
