Fukuoka Airport International Terminal Expansion and Renovation Project
The international terminal, which opened in 1999, had a passenger count of approximately 2.5 million at the time, but by fiscal 2018 had reached 6.9 million, posing issues such as a lack of arrival and departure facilities, lack of retail services, and a cramped facility.
Fukuoka International Airport Co.,Ltd. (FIAC) has set a master plan targeting "16 million international passengers per year," and in May began construction work on expansion and renovations to create an environment that can welcome this large number of customers.
As the gateway to Fukuoka, Kyushu, and Western Japan, we aim to welcome many customers in a comfortable space. We will approximately double the area of the terminal building and expand the airport terminal capacity. In addition, we will implement improvements on the 3rd floor (Free, Fast, Fun) to improve the quality of airport services and realize improved convenience and the creation of an attractive facility.

Overview of terminal expansion (floor plan)

Concourse extension
By extending the concourse equipped with PBBs (passenger boarding bridges) to the open spots (six spots for small aircraft) that have previously caused inconvenience, we will be able to achieve smoother boarding and disembarking times.

North extension
We will relocate Security Check Point and install inspection equipment, expand the arrival baggage claim area and add more arrival baggage claim conveyors, and strengthen our departure and arrival functions.
Once you pass through the immigration checkpoint, you will find a walk-through duty-free shop and food court, providing an area where you can enjoy shopping and dining.
We are also working towards carbon neutrality.

A walk-through format was introduced to create a lively atmosphere after passing through immigration and to allow customers to enjoy shopping within the flow of traffic.
A new food court will be built next to the duty-free shop area.

Access hole construction
The arrival lobby will be expanded to make transfers to secondary transportation more comfortable.

Construction of dedicated roads for domestic and international shuttle buses
Reduce travel time between the domestic terminal (subway) and the international terminal

Construction of multi-story parking lots
Expanding parking capacity by converting the existing surface parking lot into a multi-level parking lot
